Bertha Louise

Townsend Toulmin (born March 7, 1869 in Ph iladelphia, died. May 12, 1909, Haverford, Pennsylvania), America n tennis player, winner of the U.S. Championships. St American wa s the first tennis player who managed to defend the title at the U.S. Championships (now U.S. Open). In 1888 he defeated in the finals (challenge round) defending champion (The winner also the first tournament in history) Ellen Hansell 6:3, 6:5, and a year later, the same privilege of using the challenge round (which gives the winner the right to defend the title in the match with a designated person challengers in the tournament), Lida Vorhees defeated 7-5, 6-3.
